the MRT System...

Another event in our country that I think is significant was during the execution of Manila Metro Rail Transit System or commonly called as MRT. The MRT is operated by the Metro Rail Transit Corporation (MRTC). MRTC is a private company operating with the partnership of the Department of Transportation and communications or the DOTC. The MRT forms part of Metro Manila's rail transport infrastructure, known as the Strong Republic Transit System and the overall public transport system. One of its original purposes was to decongest Epifanio de los Santos Avenue or commonly called as EDSA. EDSA is one of Metro Manila's main roads and the location of MRT. Commuters riding MRT also need to ride buses and/or jeepneys depending on where they are in order to get to the location of MRT.

The single line and serves thirteenth stations. The initial station is in the Taft Avenue and its last destination will be in the North Avenue which is the 13th station. From its initial station, the Taft Avenue will subsequently set off to the second station which is in Magallanes and next to Ayala which is the third station then to its forth station in Buendia. From Buendia will go directly to Guadalupe, the fifth station and to Boni Avenue which is the sixth station. The seventh station is in Shaw Boulevard and next, the eight station in Ortigas. From that, will go directly to its ninth station in Santolan then to Araneta Center in Cubao, the tenth station and next to Kamuning, which is the eleventh station on its way to the twelfths station in Quezon Avenue and will depart in to North Avenue for its last station. The MRT is open from 5:30 a.m. and will be open until 10:30 p.m. Special schedules are announced in its PA system in every station and also in the newspapers and other mass media. It is open every day of the year except when announced, and during Holy week, when it is closed for annual maintenance.

Based on Wikipedia the stations have a standard layout, with a concourse level and a platform level, with stairs, escalators and elevators leading down to the platform level. The concourse also contains ticket booths. Some stations, such as in Araneta center in Cubao and just currently the last station in North Avenue are connected at concourse level to nearby buildings, such as shopping malls, for easier accessibility.

Stations either have island platforms, such as in the Taft avenue station and in Shaw Boulevard station, or side platforms, such as in Ortigas station and in the North Avenue station. Part of the platform at the front of the train is cordoned off for the use of women, children, elderly and disabled passengers. At side-platform stations passengers may need to enter the concourse area to enter the other platform or go through bridges atop some stations, while passengers can easily switch sides at stations with island platforms. Stations have toilets at the concourse level.

In my own personal view, the MRT station is one of the good technologies developed in our country. The most traffic area, as far as I am concerned, in the Philippines in Metro Manila. Because of this technology we can partly escape from the heavy traffic in metro manila. And I have personally observed the traffic in Metro Manila and the consequences that will happen when you got traffic on your way. That is why all people living far from the city but is working in the city proper should go out early morning in their house just to get to their working area on time. This technology, the MRT bridges the long distances of such specific areas in the city. Day by day the MRT station is very busy because lots of commuters are riding in their since it provides the shortest way in all area inside the city proper in a short period of time. This technology also helps develop the transportation in our country. And I am hoping to have more technologies like the MRT not only in Metro Manila but also in other regions in the Philippines.
