What's New and What's Next in terms of Technology

In this modern age a lot of new technologies have been created. The most popular among these gadgets are the mobile phones, audio and video player and the digital cameras. Nokia, Samsung, Motorola and Sony Ericson which are the leading brands in mobile devices are always competing in having the latest model of their mobile phones. Of course other brands such as LG, T Mobile, Blackberry and other brands do not want to be in the last. They are also making sure to create innovative styles of mobile devices. Obviously, we all know that the latest models of mobile phones are now capable of video and audio streaming as well as taking picture, videos and voice recordings and also have access to the internet.
Similarly, iPods and other audio and video players are also the most selling gadgets these days. The iPod Generation 6 is which I think the latest model of it. There is now the new iPod video which has memory storage of 30 gigabyte up to 60 gigabyte. This new iPod video feature has 60 percent brighter and more vibrant 2.5 inch color display good for watching TV shows and movies. This new iPod integrate with iTunes 7 and the iTunes Store that includes over 75 Hollywood movies, 220 television shows and popular video games designed specifically for the fifth generation iPod. And of course can also play music that you want. There are also new models for the iPod Nano and the iPod Shuffle. Moreover, from what we see in our homes the appliances today are also becoming more innovative. Almost all have been what we called “hitech”.

Of course, the emergent of these new technologies are not only seen inside our house. Many have been change of because of these new innovations. From the way we work and even in our education. Technologies help our works easier and faster with the help of the computers and other office suppliers that we need in order to get our job done. Before we do our own jobs manually that was really so tiring and a very time costly. But with the help of these new technologies, we have been inspired to work hard because we find help in doing our jobs from these new gadgets that are available. Aside from that, technologies also help us in our education. With the help of computers and internet we can easily search through many things want we want to know. Also there is already what we call as “e-Learning” and “virtual learning in which through this learning is possible even we are outside the school premises.

In terms of health and medicine, there are also new medical technologies that have been developed right now. Implanted medicines are the new trend of medical technologies today. After a thorough surfing over the internet I have found an article on physorg.com about new medical technology called EndoSure. EndoSure originally came up from the Georgia Institute of Technology. It is the first implantable pressure sensor that combines wireless and microelectromechanical system (MEMS) technology to receive FDA clearance. EnduSure is usually known as the EnduSure Wireless AAA pressure System. According to the article EnduSure is a CardioMEMs’ innovative device that measures blood pressure especially to those people who have an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Similarly, a small and tiny pressure sensor that is inserted in the femoral artery is also a device used for measuring blood pressure.

“The sensor, which has a diameter of about one millimeter including its casing, measures the patient’s blood pressure 30 times per second. It is connected via a flexible micro-cable to a transponder unit, which is likewise implanted in the groin under the skin. This unit digitizes and encodes the data coming from the micro-sensor and transmits them to an external reading device that patients can wear like a cell phone on their belt. From there, the readings can be forwarded to a monitoring station and analyzed by the doctor.” These devices are believed to help the monitoring of blood pressure made easier. Also according to the article these implantable pressure sensor are not only for measuring blood pressure because this sensor is also suitable for other applications such as monitoring patients suffering from cardiac insufficiency.

Technologies are always changing and transforming. We have already used some of these new technologies but we are all excited of what kind technology the future will give us. There are still many new technologies are coming up in the coming years. I have read many articles about the technologies of the future in the web. An example is in gaj-it.com, one article of this site is called “Technology and Gadget Predictions in 2050”. The lists technologies in this post are the flying cars, Holograms, Teleportation, Eco Villages, robots, computers and etc.

The flying cars is one of the very popular talked about technologies in the future. The flying cars are said will be the new trend in terms of transportation in the near future. According to this technology blog, the flying cars already exist today but have fail to take off these days but is predicted that the flying cars will be dominant in the year 2050 because of the Carbon Emissions law which might rule out every gas powered vehicle. A phone which is integrated with hologram is predicted to be the next trend in communication. There are many faces of how the computer will look like in the future and the added features on it which makes it more futuristic. It is said that in the futures there will be no more keyboard because it will be touch screen. The computers in the near future will become handier because it does not anymore have a monitor or a keyboard. I have seen a video of this computer called “pen pc” on youtube, this computer is as small as a ballpen which serves as the CPU of the computer. The pen pc uses a laser and infrared technology which projects the screen on the wall and also projects a full size keyboard on the flat surface of your desk. To see the full video of this you can navigate here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40tS8A-SJ6c .

Above all, I am really excited to the future of our city based the article “Technology and Gadget Predictions in 2050” on gaj-it.com because of its artistic look and its futuristic features. It is said every house n this eco village will have a solar panel roofing and wind turbines in its yard. It made me become more interested because the house would have a landing pad for your flying cars and a garage where you can teleport. And the good thing for this is because this is a solar energy using house you would not be worried anymore of the high electricity bills. This small device has a tubular holographic storage device that is capable of storing terabytes of data.

When talking about future technologies the first thing that would really comes up into my mind are all about the robots, teleportation, time machine and human cloning. These technologies are one of the talked about technologies when talking about the future. They said that nobody is impossible with technology and in the future. But do robots, teleportation, time machine and human cloning possible in the future?

There are robots that are already developed today and still developing for the future use. The robots mimic almost all the actions of human and in the future the robots will not only mimic all human actions but as well as the appearance of the human. According to futureforall.org the robotic engineers are designing the next generation of robots that would look, feel and act more human compared to the robots that we have today. the article further describe some feature of the future robots:

“Realistic looking hair and skin with embedded sensors will allow robots to react naturally in their environment. For example, a robot that senses your touch on the shoulder and turns to greet you.”
“Subtle actions by robots that typically go unnoticed between people, help bring them to life and can also relay non verbal communication.”

“Artificial eyes that move and blink. Slight chest movements that simulate breathing. Man made muscles to change facial expressions. These are all must have attributes for the socially acceptable robots of the future.”
“The brain behind the beauty will be the key to turning a realistic looking machine into a life like robot. Artificial intelligence plays a pivotal role in successful human/robot interaction.”

Human Cloning, according to wikipedia is the creation of a genetically identical copy of a human being, human cell or human tissue. Some have said that human cloning will give benefits to people but many have argued if human cloning will really help or damage humanity. Many wanted to be cloned and clone some dead people that they knew. An article on lifeissues.net has given some possible reasons for human cloning:

1. Cloning human embryos as a way of making babies
When a cloned human embryo is implanted in the uterus of the woman to which the generating egg belongs or of a surrogate mother, the delivery of a newborn baby is expected following pregnancy, as has been demonstrated by mammalian cloning. This use of human cloning has been improperly called "reproductive cloning" since its ultimate goal is to reproduce an adult human being.

2. Cloning human embryos as a mean of producing stem cells
A second objective of human cloning is to generate embryonic stem cells for tissue engineering and transplantation or use in cell therapy. Once the human embryo is cloned, its further development is arrested before implantation (usually at the blastocyst stage) thereby destroying the further development of the embryo. The proposed name of this sort of human cloning, i.e. "therapeutic cloning", is misleading in that it confounds the purpose of the action with the very nature of the process at stake. Indeed, to produce embryonic stem cells a living human embryo has been deliberately created and destroyed.

3. Cloning human embryos as a tool for studying genetic and epigenetic processes
The transfer of a nucleus from a human tissue cell to an enucleated human oocyte and the study of the embryonic development that follows may be performed with an aim to understand the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms of cell growth, potency, differentiation, regeneration and senescence. This kind of experimental design in cell biology has been called "nucleus reprogramming". Despite the innocent name, it involves cloning a human embryo for the sole purpose of experimentation.

When we talked about teleportation and time machine its sound like a good idea of a movie scene but do not look realistic in this world. But might sound impossible but technologies that consist of transporting one entity to another geographical location is already in development today. I’m still not convinced and still have some doubts if technologies like these would be possible. But if this would be real in the near future I hope these will be beneficial to all. Just like the cloning and human robots, way back many years, many have doubt if these will be possible but it is happening now and all we can do is see our future will all these technologies in our surroundings. Every technology that have been developed is initially for the purpose to help humans have uncomplicated life. But every technology developed all has drawbacks. Just like on an article I’ve read on thetech.org, it raises questions addressed to us as individuals and as a society. Will this technology help me become the person that I want to be? Or that I should be? How will it affect the principle of treating everyone in our society fairly? Does the technology help our community advance our shared values? Maybe we can answer these questions based on what we think and what we want, but I thing I am sure of, our answers are not sure if that would really end up exact on the future. Many are afraid of what the future will bring. But we have to always look forward for the future because it is the only way to answer and clear all our doubts.
